30 Poems, 30 Days 2021: Señora Tierra (Day 22)

Señora Tierra has her own long COVID-19

She has a high fever from global warming

We sense it in the climate change

Endless fires, stronger storms, strange freezes

She has difficulty breathing from the air pollution

She has muscle aches that cause more quakes

She has chronic fatigue with lack of energy

To keep things going as they should

She has congestion with all her humans do

She has noticed that certain things lacking luster

We’ve polluted her air, water, and land

It’s making her nauseous and confused

The future looks foggy ahead

Señora Tierra is worried she might fall asleep

Many of our activities are making her worse

She’s scared that her humans are getting sick too

Señora Luna looks sad in the distance

All our hope rests in science

It’s up to all of us to take our shot

And help Señora Tierra get her shot too
