30 Poems in 30 Days 2022: Sea Turtle Mother (Day 11)

Sea turtle mothers swim far distances

In the big wide Gulf of Mexico

To reach our shores for one thing only

They find the spot they remember

While picking a certain spot on the sand

It has to be away from other creatures

They don’t know who they can trust

They survived here years ago

So they hope that their young will too

They dig within the sand for the hole

That will keep her eggs warm

She leaves them covered as she goes

With no idea if they will survive

It’s only up to us to protect them
