The name means “stream.”

It can denote a small, narrow river.

The name means a small Greek island village.

An island nearer to Turkey than Greece,

But don’t tell them that, they’ll always be Greek.

No matter what wars were fought.

Greece became independent 200 years ago,

That includes all her islands.

The small village’s stream points to sea.

Nothing like the size of Mytilene,

Vourkos is the perfect size.

In the third largest Greek island,

Mountains in the North and South,

Including the famous Mt. Olympus,

Millions of olive trees on lower slopes,

Experienced in pictures, words, music, and food,

Someday this writer will visit the homeland

To know where she came from.
