30 Poems, 30 Days 2021: Next Season (Day 4)

Every Spring, we look forward to the bloom,

This Spring, there is still a bit of gloom,

Growth disappeared in the defrost,

No matter how much we tried,

Not much survived, gone for new,

Some with transplants started again,

Others with hope on surviving bulbs,

Hidden away like a secret surprise,

While the mind might drift to the missing,

Like the Easter lilies of almost a decade ago,

Leaving the pots empty for the first year,

Or the wild rabbits who were perfect neighbors,

Who haven’t been seen since last year,

No matter the uncertainty ahead,

New growth brings a brighter future,

Even if we have to wait for next season
