30 Poems, 30 Days 2020: Heart NYC (Day 2)

Credit: ABC News Live

As the plane touched down I almost cried

Seeing the sign “Welcome to NYC”

Something I never thought I would see

Just like the images one September day

Just like the empty streets today

From miles away I still remember

How I felt seeing that city

Better than falling in love

Something so familiar yet new

I never wanted to walk so much

To see the sights and the people too

I felt at home in theatre district

As I walked through Time Square

As the ferry boat went by Lady Liberty

During the walks with amazing friends

Every bit inspires me to write every day

Time will tell when I’ll see that city

I still love where I live, don’t doubt that

South Texas, I’m proud to be

I just wish I had a time machine

To be in two places at once

To experience it all over again

To take us to the future where hope thrives

To the moment where I’m there again

My thoughts are always there

Praying we’ll all get through

NYC taught me about passion, compassion,

But most of all about strength
